Nairn Kayak Club is lucky to be situated close to one of the best Kayaking Rivers in the UK - The River Findhorn, with four sections of varying difficulty from the beginner to advanced.
At our usual spot on the Findhorn we have calm water, deep pools, and a rapid for practising skills below or giving it a go if you’re feeling brave! Parking is limited to roughly 6 vehicles so sharing is recommended. There is no toilet or changing facilities here.
At Knockando we have plenty of
eddies, safe rapids and deep pools to introduce the beginner or practise skills
already learnt. Rolling in calm or moving water can also be practised as well
as practising ferry gliding. Knockando has plenty space for parking, and has
separated changing facilities and an eco-toilet (take toilet paper just in case).
The river sessions are *on the water* for 7pm. Although these are classed as
"park and play" sessions with paddler’s vehicles nearby, it is recommended that
paddlers take at minimum of a small first aid kit, throw bag, karabiner, snacks
and drinks on the river with them. Hot drinks are also a good idea
to leave with your vehicle with a spare warm change of clothes.
There is a small £1 fee per session
for all members attending.
From November to March, the river sessions do not run and these are replaced
with pool sessions, see the "Pool Sessions" section for more info!
